Why an Upper Arm Lift?

As we age, after significant weight fluctuations, or due to genetic predisposition, the skin on the upper arms can become loose. An arm lift helps correct these changes by removing excess skin and fat and improving the contours of the upper arms. This procedure is ideal for individuals who wish to tighten their upper arms and boost their self-confidence.

The Procedure

The arm lift is generally performed under general anesthesia and involves several steps:

  • Consultation and planning: In a detailed consultation, your individual wishes and needs are discussed, and a customized treatment plan is created.
  • Incision: A long incision is made on the inner or back side of the upper arms. The length and position of the incision depend on the extent of excess skin.
  • Removal of fat and skin: Excess fat is removed through liposuction, and excess skin is surgically excised.
  • Tissue tightening: The remaining tissue is tightened, and the skin is repositioned to achieve a smooth and firm contour.
  • Closure: The incisions are closed with fine sutures. A dressing or compression garment is applied to support healing.

After the Surgery

Mild swelling, bruising, and pain are normal after the surgery and usually subside within a few weeks. A compression garment helps reduce swelling and supports healing. Most patients are socially presentable again after about two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Upper Arm Lift

Does health insurance cover the costs of an arm lift?

In most cases, an arm lift is classified as a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance. However, there may be exceptions if the procedure is necessary for medical reasons, such as extreme excess skin following significant weight loss.

How long is the recovery time after an arm lift?

Recovery time is typically about 2-3 weeks. During this time, strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided to promote healing.

How does an arm lift differ from other body-tightening procedures?

Unlike procedures like liposuction, which only remove fat, an arm lift removes both excess skin and fat to create a tighter arm contour. The focus is on tightening the skin, not just reducing fat.

How long do the results of an arm lift last?

The results of an arm lift are generally permanent, especially if the patient maintains a stable weight. However, aging and significant weight fluctuations can affect results over time.
