Treatment for Migraines
Treatment with botulinum toxin type A is a non-surgical intervention for the relief of chronic migraines. Botulinum toxin is injected into specific areas of the head and neck to temporarily reduce muscle activity and block pain signals. This leads to a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of migraine attacks without the need for surgery or, often, without additional pharmacological therapy.
Why Botulinum Toxin Type A?
Chronic migraines can significantly impact quality of life, causing severe pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. Botulinum toxin type A works by blocking the release of certain chemicals involved in pain transmission. The treatment offers a fast, effective, and minimally invasive solution for people suffering from chronic migraines, helping to improve their daily functioning and overall well-being.

The treatment
Botulinum toxin type A treatment for migraines is performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes only 15 to 30 minutes. First, the area to be treated is cleansed, and a local anesthetic can optionally be applied for comfort. The physician then precisely injects the botulinum toxin into the affected areas. At InGold Aesthetics clinics, we only use botulinum toxins approved in Switzerland, such as Botox®, Dysport®/Azzalure®, Xeomin®/Bocouture®, and the vegan Alluzience®, to ensure maximum safety and effectiveness.

Questions & Answers
How long does the effect last in treating migraines?
The effect can last 3 to 6 months, depending on individual muscle activity and other factors. Regular top-up treatments help prolong the results.
Can I continue my daily life as normal after this treatment?
Yes, most patients can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. However, slight swelling or redness may occur, which subsides within a few days.
Does health insurance cover the costs of migraine treatment with botulinum toxin?
Coverage by health insurance is possible, but requires a request for reimbursement. This request is submitted after a medical diagnosis and consultation. In many cases, especially for chronic migraines, health insurance companies will cover the costs if other treatment methods have not proven sufficiently successful.
Will migraines get better over time if I do treatment regularly?
Regular treatments can reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks in the long term and make the problem more manageable. However, it is important to continue treatments consistently to maintain results.
Will migraines get worse if I stop treatment?
Symptoms usually return to the state they were before treatment began. They do not become worse than before when treatment is stopped.
