Types of Chemical Peels
Superficial Peels:
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): Light fruit acid peels, ideal for gentle exfoliation and improving skin texture.
- Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs): Salicylic acid peels, particularly effective in treating acne and oily skin.
Medium Peels:
- Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): Medium-strength peels that treat deeper wrinkles, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.
Deep Peels:
- Phenol: Very intensive peels that address deep wrinkles and severe sun damage. These peels require longer recovery times and should be performed by experienced specialists.
What is a phenol peel?
A phenol peel is a high-intensity chemical peel used for deep skin rejuvenation and renewal. It is particularly effective in treating deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and severe hyperpigmentation. Due to its intensity, this peel is performed exclusively in the operating room under strict medical supervision.
Why in the operating room?
Phenol peels are performed in the operating room because they require close patient monitoring. Phenol has potentially cardiotoxic properties, so continuous monitoring of cardiac function is necessary during treatment. The treatment is performed under sedation and can last several hours, depending on the extent and treatment area.
The Intervention
- Preparation: Cleansing of the skin and, if necessary, application of a local anesthetic or sedation.
- Procedure: The phenol is carefully applied to the skin to remove the upper layers and stimulate the deeper layers to regenerate.
- Monitoring: Throughout the entire treatment, the patient’s heart function and vital signs are continuously monitored.
- Aftercare: Intensive aftercare is required to support the healing process and avoid complications.
Benefits of Phenol Peeling
- Deep Skin Rejuvenation: Treats deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and significant hyperpigmentation.
- Long-lasting Results: The effects can last for several years.
- Smoother and Firmer Skin: Improves skin texture and provides a more youthful appearance.
After treatment
Recovery Time – Several weeks
Swelling and Redness – Intense swelling and redness are common and subside within weeks.
Social Readiness – Most patients require a longer recovery time at home.
Care Instructions – Regular follow-up appointments and intensive skin care are necessary.
Important NOTE
Due to the intensity and potential risks of the phenol peel, it is important that this treatment is only performed by experienced specialists in a medically controlled environment.

As a rule, aesthetic treatments are not covered by health insurance.
Is peeling treatment safe during pregnancy?
Some peels are not recommended during pregnancy. We adapt the treatment to your needs and choose gentle methods if you are pregnant.
How do chemical peels differ from other treatments?
Chemical peels use acids to remove the top layers of skin to promote skin renewal, while other treatments such as laser or mechanical peels use light or abrasion to achieve similar results.
Which peeling treatment is best for acne scars?
Both the PRX-T33® peel and the phenol peel are excellent for treating acne scars. PRX-T33® offers a gentler, non-invasive solution, while the phenol peel smooths deeper scars.
Which chemical peel is particularly recommended?
To determine the chemical peel that’s best for you, we’ll assess your skin on-site, discuss your individual needs and skin goals, and use that to decide which peel treatment is best for you.
